A potato is the starchy tuber of the potato plant and is root vegetable belonging to the nightshade family. The potato is used widely for culinary purposes and come in different sizes, textures, and colors.

Potatoes contain glycoalkaloids called solanine and chaconine which can cause serious gastrointestinal distress which can be detrimental to your pets health. The green parts of the potato and the sprouted parts known as the eyes are more toxic and can cause severe illness if ingested. If the potato is clean and does not have any green parts or eyes, the high amount of carbohydrates and starch still cannot be digested by rabbits and other small pets, causing abdominal pain and other issues.
