Latin Name
Solanum melongena
Description
Eggplant is a plant species in the nightshade family. The stalk is a deep purple with large leaves and dark purple oval-shaped fruits hanging down from the stalk.
For Your Pet
The plant itself is extremely toxic to animals and humans alike. Because they are in the nightshade family, they contain a toxin called solanine. Eating any part other than the fruit is dangerous and symptoms include severe pain in the mouth and throat, nausea, vomiting, and could potentially put small pets into cardiac arrest.
Warning
Do not feed your pet any part of the Eggplant plant as it can cause serious illness or death.
